There is now a petition on the Downing Street website asking the Prime Minister to allow Community Radio to broadcast without charge in the event of a crisis.
If Radio Winchcombe had been allowed to go on air on the weekend of the flood it would have been an extremely useful tool for the emergency services and Winchcombe council to be able to get information to residents. As it stands Ofcom want six weeks notice together with the full fee. Another contentious issue is that community radio is restricted to two broadcasts a year, and providing emergency radio counts as one broadcast.
We really would like you to add your name to the petition on the Downing Street website. The more signatures we get increases the chances of ofcom changing the rules.
It can be found at: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/flood-radio/
Thank you
